Straight-Up Celtic Rock

The members of The Durty Nellys bring to the show years of experience and a vast and diverse background of musical talents:

Whenever Dave gets up on stage you never know what’s going to happen.  As the front man of the group he puts on a show that has the pub singing and dancing from beginning to end.  He has enough foot pedals and electronics to land a 747 and knows how to make that guitar play.  Watch out because he might be just as easily jumping up on your table entertaining as he will be laying under it by the end of the night.  Years and years of leading the best rock bands in the city has given him experience like no other to make this band crazy.  All the amazing graphics and publicity for the band come from his hand as well.

Charlotte is the charmer of the Nelly‘s and will have you entranced any given night with a spontaneous fiddle jig that keeps the crowd a jumping.  She sings lead female vocals with a magic that fills the air with her lilting voice and infectious smile.  She’s a musician that compares to none and will set fire to her fiddle as easily as she will melt you with her voice.  You can see the same energy and love of music with her many, many fiddle students across the Twin Cities.

It seems that Tim can play about any instrument God hands him and is always a bit confused s to what he’s supposed to be playing at any given moment.  If you can give him a chance to figure out what he’s playing next you’ll be pleased with what he can produce.  The original and founding member of the Nelly's, he comes from a lifetime playing trumpet in the jazz world and has since switched to playing the music he has grown up with being raised in the Irish tradition.  He’s the original sound of the Nelly’s keeping us fresh with new songs when he’s not composing symphonic music, teaching band to all his students, and lecturing on music history at his college.  He was recognized as Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 1995, and CMAB Artist of the Year in 2005 for his Irish Symphony: "The Rising".

Every good Irish band needs a token Irishman in the group and Kevin’s as genuine as you can get.  A direct descendant of Sir Arthur Guinness, he comes from the West of Ireland making his home near the hills of Limerick before his move to St. Paul.  You can’t understand much of what he says but he has the gift of the blarney like no other.  He’s the Paddy who puts the Rock in our Celtic Rock, and our resident sound man who manages the practice space and recording studio.  He’s also the guy that can design and build anything you can dream of when he’s not making music with the Nelly’s.

Mick is the real deal and as a musician you can find no equal. He lays the foundation down on the bass and keeps the band rock solid day in and day out. Having played in such bands as Hunters Moon, Skulduggery, The Lake City Lost boys, The Trash Bin Troubadours, and Micky and the Blue Tones, he also has sat in at one time or another with quite a few of the notable Irish bands about town. He occasionally fronts the band with that genuine Irish styling and character that (ironically) makes Shane McGowan sound sober. Can you truly have a band as wild this is without an Irish bad-boy board? - well Mick fills that role very well. Strangely enough, for all the bad boy flair and self proclaimed "Tough guy for hire" work in his past, he now works with at risk youth as a Life coach and program specialist.
